March 1, 2015
My name is Frankie, and I am a chocoholic. There, I admitted it, and that’s the first step.
I actually had my first taste of chocolate when I was just six weeks old, when my nonna thought it would be a good idea to feed me a KitKat, and while many might think that wasn’t a good idea, I thought it was pretty great.
From that moment on, chocolate has been one of my favourite things (up there with my family and Henry Cavill) and it’s always been in my life. Even when I lost loads of weight, I never actually gave up chocolate – even if the volume/quality/speed at which I put it in me decreased.
So, it is with a heavy (yet – possibly – soon to be healthier) heart that I announce I am taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s Dechox month. Yep, I’m giving up chocolate for the whoooooole of March. The whole 31-fucking-days. 744-fucking-hours. Do you know how many KitKats I could eat in that time, even without teeth?
So, it’s gonna be tough, but I’m going to do it – not only because it’s for a good cause, but to prove to myself that I can. Hopefully.
We’ve all got a heart and as hard as we try to take good care of it, one day it might let us down. Did you know that one in four of the UK population is lost to heart and circulatory disease every year and there are currently seven million people in the UK living with the disease? The British Heart Foundation need funds for life-saving work, so what better way to do so than by giving up chocolate for a month? By becoming a heroic Dechoxer you’ll be joining the fight for every heartbeat, helping the BHF continue its lifesaving work.
Here’s the science…
The UK’s first ever Dechox is here! A nationwide sponsored challenge to give up chocolate for March and raise money for lifesaving heart research. Any sort of cocoa is a no-no, which means chocolate sweets, treats, biscuits, ice cream, cake – and even the chocolate sprinkles on your cappuccino – are off limits during March.
So whether you’re an undercover chocolate eater, a crafty nibbler or a full-on midnight fridge raider, now’s the time to dump the chunk and give chocolate the finger!
You can sign up with Just Giving to receive sponsorship for your efforts, or you can do what I’m doing and refer people to the BHF website, where they can make a donation – please click here to give what you can to a worthy cause.
I’ll be keeping you posted on my progress (read: body count), my top tips and my guide to what to eat where if you’re avoiding chocolate.
Wish me luck…
